Abstract:

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is an open communication between the upper descending thoracic aorta and the proximal left pulmonary artery, which results from persistence of the fetal ductus arteriosus. It may be isolated or occur with other congenital cardiac anomalies. Aneurysms of the ductus arteriosus are rare lesions which may occur as a spontaneous. infantile fonn or occur in later childhood oradult life. About60cases of ductus aneurysm have been reported in infants less than two months old, and only about 40 cases have been reported so far in adults in the world literature. In this report, a case of huge aneurysm of the ductus arteriosus in a five year old child associated with ventricular septal defect and pulmonary stenosis is presented, the first case of this kind in the literature, Successful surgical correction was performed.

Patent ductus arteriosus in a lamb: A case report

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a persistent patency of a vessel normally present in the fetus that connects the pulmonary arterial system to the aorta. The ductus arteriosus fails to close at birth when breathing commences and placental blood circulation is removed. Closure of the ductus arteriosus arises in response to decline pulmonary vascular resistance and increased systemic vascular re...

Pulmonary Stenosis Caused by Ductus Arteriosus Aneurysm: A Case Report

A 76-year-old woman with a 2-week history of dyspnea on exertion was admitted to our hospital. A computed tomography scan showed a 70-mm diameter aortic arch aneurysm containing a large thrombus that was compressing the pulmonary artery. Echocardiography showed severe pulmonary stenosis and no shunt flow. Operative findings revealed an aneurysmal thrombus protruding into the lumen of the pulmon...

Lineage Switch in Childhood Leukemia: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Acute leukemia which is the most common cancer in children is a heterogeneous group of clonal malignancies. The conversion of the leukemic cell lineage during the course of the disease or later is termed lineage switch. It has been rarely reported in the literature. In leukemia lineage switch, conversions from lymphoblastic leukemia to myeloid leukemia or vice versa are reported. Herein, we rep...

Mycotic aortic aneurysm as a postsurgical complication: report of a case and review of the literature

Mycotic aneurysms are localized and irreversible dilatations of the arteries caused by weakening and damaging the arterial wall by an invasive organism establishing infective arteritis. Mycotic aneurysm of the thoracic aorta is a rare event; however, it can be fatal if not diagnosed early or not treated appropriately. Clinical findings are usually nonspecific; however, c...

Silent patent ductus arteriosus aneurysm.

Ductus arteriosus aneurysm, a rare and potentially fatal condition, has been reported as a complication after surgical ductus arteriosus closure. Its spontaneous appearance as a septic complication, which was common in the presurgical and preantibiotic era, has been rarely reported in the contemporary literature. Persistence of silent ductus arteriosus in healthy children and adults is a freque...
